Brian Stelter

Here's video of Trump in 2014 saying what being impeached would do to Obama: "He would be a mess. He would be thinking about nothing but. It would be a horror show for him. It would be an absolute embarrassment. It would go down on his record permanently."

Can't really ignore one fact today: A whistleblower complaint changed the course of Trump's presidency. You can't ever know what would have happened without it, but Pelosi had held her caucus back from impeachment for months even after Mueller.

I disagree with Brian here. I do think journalists, under the Constitution, have a special obligation to defend American democracy. It is the only profession specifically protected in the Constitution. “Regular” crimes are one thing, but abuses of power are another matter. twitter.com/brianstelter/s…

Big differences between Clinton impeachment and this one. Clinton at this point was publicly contrite and partisans supporting him mostly argued that what he did was wrong, just not impeachable. This president is on the attack and his partisans deny facts and any wrongdoing.

I said at the beginning of the impeachment inquiry that journalists shouldn't advocate for an outcome, but should advocate for a well-informed public. So... how well have we done on that count? mailchi.mp/cnn/rs-dec-17-…
