Jean lowered the wheelchair world record in five of her wins, ultimately recording a best of 1:34:22. She is widely regarded as a pioneer in wheelchair racing history. A pair of her racing gloves are in the B.A.A.’s archives along with gloves from fellow champion Cheri Blauwet.
Among the most successful athletes in Boston Marathon history is Jean Driscoll. Beginning in 1990, Jean won seven women’s wheelchair titles in a row, and added an eighth victory in 2000 to become the most decorated women’s champion of all-time.

A portion of all entry fees will be donated towards the B.A.A.’s goal of raising $125,000 to support nonprofits in the Greater Boston area whose missions focus on health & wellness.
Entrants of the virtual event will receive a limited-edition hat featuring a red, white, & blue B.A.A. unicorn from adidas, limited to the first 10,000 entrants. Entrants may register multiple participants at the point of registration.

The 2021 Patriots’ Day Mile starts a new April marathon weekend tradition for runners of all levels & abilities to come together to run a mile or more.
We are tremendously saddened to learn of the passing of Boston Marathon icon Dick Hoyt. Dick personified what it means to be a Boston Marathoner, finishing 32 races with son Rick. We are keeping his many family & friends in our prayers. bit.ly/DickHoyt
The selection process will be consistent with prior years: applications & times will be verified and ranked by the B.A.A. based on the amount of time athlete has run under their respective qualifying standard.
Finishers will receive a special edition 125th Unicorn medal.

Kathrine Switzer’s famed bib number 261 is one of only 2 numbers ceremoniously retired by the B.A.A. for its special significance at the 1967 Boston Marathon. Switzer became the first woman to finish the Boston Marathon while sporting a bib number.

Trailblazing her way from Hopkinton to Boston, Bobbi Gibb made history at the 1966 Boston Marathon. Jumping into the race near the start, Gibb covered all 26.2 miles and became the first woman to complete the Boston Marathon.

Meb Keflezighi—the 2014 Boston Marathon champion—is also a member of the National Black Marathoners Hall of Fame class of 2015. In 2019, Meb spoke at the annual NBMA dinner that’s held prior to the Boston Marathon, and also served as our Grand Marshal that year.

The B.A.A. mourns the recent passing of Boston Marathon champion Liane Winter of Germany. Liane won the 1975 Boston Marathon in a then-course record & world best of 2:42:24. She was a pioneer of women’s running & the first international champion of the women’s division in Boston.
