Black Lives Matter

Politicians have been protecting systems of policing as if it could magically abandon its roots of slave patrolling and anti-Black violence. Banning choke holds and requiring body cameras doesn’t keep us safe. More money for “training” doesn’t keep us safe.

Maintaining a white supremacist institution like policing costs Black lives. This continued commitment by politicians to support our killers makes them accessories to our demise.

The teachers sacrificed their lives for the kids but the cops wouldn’t. Think about that the next time your city is talking about what to fund.

George Floyd’s life mattered. It mattered to his family; to his daughter; to the people who loved him deeply and unconditionally; to his community. We honor his life, by continuing to do the work to end state-sanctioned violence and enriching Black lives.

Our communities continue to move from tragedy to tragedy – all the while, countless politicians continue their rallying cry for more funding for police while they do nothing to address gun violence terrorizing schools, grocery stores, and places of worship.

We are continuing to evolve from an organization that was boxed into Black death, to what it means to celebrate the fullness of Black life. The things that we live for, and that keep us safe.
We are the largest Black, abolitionist, philanthropic organization to have ever existed in this nation’s history. What we are doing has never been done before.
We hope that this is the beginning of a real conversation for our people about the dynamics of our Black power and our relationship to money. nytimes.com/2022/05/17/bus…
May we join in beloved community and lay the spiritual foundation for the revolutionary work necessary to #EndWhiteSupremacy and make #BlackLivesMatter. Bring your prayers, candles, flowers, songs, and offerings on Saturday May 21st @ 6:00 PM.
We have heard the calls for transparency and accountability, and our BLM Transparency Center is now live. We are embracing this moment as an opportunity for celebration, accountability, healing, and truth-telling. blacklivesmatter.com/transparency/
“The credibility of the entire movement is at stake based on these choices...They deserve a little grace here. As protesters suddenly given a windfall of money, they had to learn how to manage a large nonprofit on the fly, and it’s a lot to ask.” nytimes.com/2022/05/17/bus…

White supremacist violence and right wing vigilante violence are on the rise. The American legal system is designed to uplift and protect it.
Black people continue to live in fear of police, white supremacist vigilantes, and for their basic safety in public. And the answer isn’t more money for police.
White supremacy has a coherent ideology and deliberate tactics. Unless politicians take immediate action to #EndWhiteSupremacy, more lives will be stolen.
Anyone pushing "The Great Replacement Theory" has blood on their hands.
Our heart breaks for the families that lost loved ones in Black Buffalo. Make no mistake — what we saw today was the result of white supremacist violence. We must end white supremacy once and for all.
They will regurgitate the unoriginal idea that, somehow, more police would have prevented the tragic act of white vigilantism in #Buffalo. The reality is despite budget growth 3x other city services and 800+ police, this targeted act was not prevented. Police are not the answer.

Anyone in the press that’s reporting the white terror attack in Buffalo as a crime story rather than a successful strike by a genocidal political movement is doing the work of that political movement.

Pearly Young, 77, was killed today in #Buffalo shopping for groceries. For 25 years she ran a pantry where every Saturday she fed people in Central Park. Every. Saturday. She loved singing, dancing, & being with family. She was mother, grandma, & missionary. Gone too soon 🕊Q

Cand*ce Ow*ns' shameful attempts at journalism further prop up a dangerous right-wing agenda that propagates racist tropes, seeds division and incites violence against Black people. Our movements & our leaders have faced these types of attacks for generations. It's all by design.

Enough is enough. It’s long overdue we #ExpandTheCourt, #EndTheFilibuster, and pass the Women’s Health Protection Act in order to codify and expand bodily autonomy and abortion access. We’ve got a lot of work ahead of us.
But here we are, over 2 years later, and the party in power has refused to act on immediate solutions like ending the filibuster or expanding the court.
In 2020, voting was at an all time high across the country. We were told to ensure that Trump stayed out of office to prevent attacks on our democracy.
There are immediate solutions that the party in power has been sitting on – like passing the #WomensHealthProtectionAct
These are the exact reasons that the Court is planning to overturn Roe and Casey. And don’t let political games fool you – waiting until the midterms to vote is NOT the ONLY solution.
They also lack access to contraception, resulting in higher rates of unintended pregnancy than women of any other racial group. nationalpartnership.org/our-work/resou…
Black women are already 3-4 times more likely to die from pregnancy compared to white women. They’re constantly denied resources, services, and information needed to make personal decisions regarding their health.
Studies have shown direct correlations between pregnancy-related deaths and abortion bans, and the numbers are exacerbated when it comes to Black women: Banning abortion nationwide would lead to 21% increase of overall deaths, and a 33% increase of deaths among Black women.
Our government does not guarantee health care, paid family leave, or universal child care – but plans to force people with uteruses to have children against their will. It doesn’t make a damn bit of sense.
The cases of Roe and Casey are the floor, NOT the ceiling – hence why Black people who can get pregnant have constantly faced significant barriers to obtaining quality reproductive health care. Overturning Roe and Casey is a deliberate attack on our communities across the country
The leaked opinion that states #RoeVsWade & Planned Parenthood v. Casey must be overturned proves everything we’ve known all along about the Court. It’s illegitimate. It’s undemocratic. And it’s damn sure political and partisan AF. Most importantly: it’s not meant for us.
