On the day Ahmaud Arbery's killers go to trial, I want to reshare this beautiful and compelling piece by Jim Barger in @BitterSouth. It is well worth the time and attention. twitter.com/BitterSouth/st…

Very important update on my @BitterSouth article about Helen: Wore my great grandmother’s steirerhut to Oktoberfest today. It’s over 70 years old and still has the original feathers.

My weekend plans consist of listening to 'Georgia Blue', reading @KeishaBlain's bio of Fannie Lou Hamer 'Until I Am Free' & perusing the latest edition of @BitterSouth magazine. And maybe a little football. twitter.com/amandashires/s…

@JasonIsbell Got to listen to the album today while enjoying the new issue of The Bitter Southerner @BitterSouth featuring a cover story on Michael Stipe. It was a very good day. Georgia Blue is fantastic!! Love it!

Happy to be a member of the @BitterSouth family! I'm enjoying the gorgeous new print issue, especially the poems.

The @BitterSouth magazine pairs extremely well with a Friday afternoon whiskey.

Between @JasonIsbell Georgia Blue being released into the world and the new issue of @BitterSouth showing up in my mailbox today, I'm feeling pretty good about living in the South at the moment!

A BS collab w/ @JasonIsbell! In the final stretch of the 2020 election, Jason vowed to record an album of songs by GA artists if GA went BLUE. Well the GEORGIA BLUE record & tee are available today! $5 from every each shirt goes to @BlackVotersMtr @fairfightaction & @GA_STANDUP
A brief look at the problematic history, geography, and charm of the fake German town of Helen, Georgia. ✍🏽@AnjaliEnjetii 📸 Truett Dietzbittersoutherner.com/southern-persp…squ

This is a good essay that could have parallels all over this country, from similar multiethnic families. I know I’ve felt the same push-pull of connection, fun, disconnect, rewritten and erased history of native peoples, fear, nostalgia and ownership over similar places in Texas. twitter.com/BitterSouth/st…

@AnjaliEnjeti This is beautiful! And I remember the whole Twitter conversation about you writing this. So glad you did. twitter.com/BitterSouth/st…

Helen is one of those places that all North Georgians bemoan, and yet we all still go a couple of times a year. All my visits to Tallulah Gorge or Sautee-Nacooche since childhood have ended with a stop in Helen for overpriced chocolates. My engagement ring was bought in Helen. twitter.com/BitterSouth/st…

Really enjoyed writing this and if you’re heading to Helen for Oktoberfest I’ll see you there! twitter.com/BitterSouth/st…

If I could find a place that were so rich and deep in narrative as @BitterSouth -well, I might find a home here. In the mean time, I will treasure Issue 2. twitter.com/sandymaxey/sta…

@reporterdriver @BitterSouth It hit home for me. Grew up in dry counties in Alabama (one of which went wet when I turned 18). Loved it.

Wrote about an ugly old bed with a scarred headboard and the women who slept in it before me. Made for my foremother c. 1840 out in western Tennessee. This @BitterSouth issue is a beaut.

I’m thumbing through my @BitterSouth and not only do I find @EricConradFL three folks away—but y’all, nothing could’ve prepared me for this shot of Bridal Veil Falls just up the road from where I grew up and regular memory of my childhood. #828

I'm going to be thinking about @DavidPeisner's words for a bit. What a lovely read about one of my favorite artists.

Interesting that the mountains of northern Arkansas have a small colony of descendants of Swiss immigrants who make really decent wine. I bought a bottle of Wiederkehr, some sort of white, once, as a joke. It turned out to be delicious. twitter.com/BitterSouth/st…

@Ciaytee @BitterSouth A thing I learned during a brief stint at Ole Miss: The state's county-by-county patchwork of alcohol laws was pure crazy. Lafayette - pronounced "la-FAY-it" – allowed beer sales but only above 50℉. Cops checked to make sure cans weren't too close to the cooler.

@Ciaytee @BitterSouth my favorite is north MS where they will sell you beer, just not cold beer

When we lived in NW Arkansas in the late '90s, the liquor store across the Missouri line had a popcorn machine & the "Welcome to Arkansas, Home of Pres. Bill Clinton" sign had shotgun holes. The state contains multitudes. twitter.com/BitterSouth/st…

I told a friend from Vancouver that I come from a dry county. She blanched and said, "I don't know what that is, but I don't like how it sounds." It just meant you drove 30 mins to either Augusta or Jacksonville. Twenty, if you didn't care about the speed limit. twitter.com/BitterSouth/st…

Now, it’s absolutely nothing to do with goat cheese or aquafaba, but Lance and April Ledbetter, of the terrific Dust-to-Digital project, are the latest guest editors of the @BitterSouth. Here’s what they’ve gotten up to with that. bittersoutherner.com/summer-voices-…
