4/4 This cashless economy is seriously coming in the way of coins and cash being dropped at the aarti plate in temples :) Having a QR code there for us to scan and pay digitally doesn't seem right either - not the same 'feels' :)
3/4 In prep for the temple visit, looked for Rs.10 or 20 notes, but had none in the house! Had just some Rs.500 notes! No other cash of any sort at home at all! Found a small bag of coins in the car we had prepped for road trip toll-paying and got Rs.2 & 5 coins for the temple!
2/4 Also realized that this temple has an idol of Dhanvantari, the God of medicine and an avatar of Lord Vishnu. And recalled how we had chanted the Dhanvantari mantra in 2020! Chanted it once, live, in front of the idol now :) twitter.com/beastoftraal/s…
Went to the nearby Shirdi Sai temple since tomorrow is son's first 12th Board exam. Google Maps informed me helpfully when we had last visited this temple - in early 2020, before son's 10th Board exams!! That was without mask, this one, with mask! How times have changed! 1/4

I recall seeing Natascha McElhone in The Truman Show (1998) (and very briefly in the TV series Designated Survivor that I stopped after a few episodes). And she looks exactly same even in Halo, the TV series!!
How the BJP's vindictive, law-misusing, law-abusing 'Bulldozer' policy is progressing. Let us all of us vote for them overwhelmingly again so that they can add 'Bulldozer Punishment' in the law and pass the bill through voice vote, as usual.

An excerpt from the book I'm reading now that has a terrifying premise: a plague that affects only men and women are asymptomatic carriers! The End of Men, by Christina Sweeney-Baird.
What a dramatic shift in perception and attitude brought out by the pandemic!!
🧵 The amount of poison being added to our discourse to make us all look at each other through the filter of religion is mind-boggling. And the hate mongers are given a free hand through 2 ways: they go scot-free before law + BJP leaders conveniently look the other way.twitter.com/zoo_bear/statu…x
7/7 The first 2 photos are by me; the rest are from Google.
6/7 first thought it was a new temple, that too right next to a liquor store!), - word-of-mouth (how can you not share something like this?), - potential consideration (I may think of this store since I remember it so vividly). Outstanding thought and execution!
5/7 with clothing at a retail level). And the design acts as a magnet for multiple reasons, besides inducing walk-ins: - memorable (you cannot forget what you saw because it's so unusual and unique!), - brand recall (you scramble to know what it is—me and my family walking by
4/7 entering the scene and does not have a legacy to fall back on (Mugdha started in 2012, I figured), it can find a shortcut to attention using design, like this. The design screams 'traditional', 'ethnic', and more ('pious', 'divine', among others that don't necessarily mix
3/7 this intricate temple-style facade and interiors too! This is a terrific demonstration of using design to communicate a message at a facade level. There are traditional clothing stores that are popular over years through word-of-mouth, but if a new brand like Mugdha is

Noticed this ethnic/traditional Indian clothes store in HSR Layout (Bengaluru) yesterday noon. I mean, how can someone *not* notice this store? The imposing facade, made to look like a temple front, is an absolute stunner! The sheer effort that has gone behind it is amazing 1/7

Why should only BJP allowed to behave vindictively, abusing the power vested to them by our votes? Shouldn't all election-winning parties be allowed to do that, abuse the law, and make all our lives miserable?
The charge of 'artificial power shortage' seems baseless since the issue is not in Tamil Nadu alone, but in multiple states, and the reasons seem manifold, not just shortage of coal alone.
Saw the ad on 20th April, and this morning too - completely missed the TV channel's name. The logo didn't seem like a name - it felt like 'The' written inside a magnifying glass/search icon :) Googled to find that the channel is called 'The Q' 🤦🏼‍♂da

I really wish there was a newsletter that compiled the titles of translations from Indian languages published every month. Since most of them are important works, classics even, it would make eminent sense for someone to maintain a database that is available in the public domain.

Noticed this clothes store in HSR Layout this noon (on the way to a super lunch at Bathinda Junction). The imposing facade, made to look like a temple front, is an absolute stunner! The sheer effort that has gone behind it is amazing and instantly gets everyone's attention!
Distressing to see Defence Ministry capitulate silently without protest before a hate-spewing rabble-rouser's (that even the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting had called 'not in good taste and offensive' in another context) blind hatred. This is how hate is normalized.

Curious to know why 24 Mantra Organic's ads in the Bengaluru editions of TOI and Mirror (both English newspapers) for atta and dal were in Hindi written in English script (headline + body copy!), but the turmeric ad is in English! :) What led to the change of... err, tongue? :)

Whoa... Paperboat has gone full mainstream, eh? Found a few more variants (Pomegranate, Lychee, and so on). Bigger bottles too available. The pack lacks the unique look/signature of Paperboat, though... and I'd have easily missed that this is from Paperboat! Haven't tried yet :)
Jammu & Kashmir has perhaps advertised more than any other state, consistently, in the last 30 days. Not just in TOI, but in multiple newspapers/editions. All that electoral bonds money is being used, I reckon. Continuation of the successful 'Gujarat model' and 'UP model'? twitter.com/beastoftraal/s…

Denial and lying (to the Court, at that) as a form of governance. Where does this courage to lie so blatantly come from? We, the people, empowered them not once, but twice, to lie through the teeth, get away with it and be rewarded for it too.

6/6 If Urban Company is named as-is in the show, and the role is indeed that of a crime-scene cleaning 'professional', I'd be very surprised! The Hindi show is based on the 2017 Argentinian show 'La chica que limpia', which was made into the 2022 English show 'The Cleaning Lady'.
5/6 all probabilities, the company name may be changed to resemble Urban Company and not used as-is. Urban Company has almost become synonymous with professional home services so that may be the implication here.
4/6 to find/investigate and enable the perpetrators to escape). That kind of connection is not something that Urban Company may want to be associated with from a corporate reputation perspective. Even if the brand name is mentioned so explicitly in the news item, I reckon, in
3/6 upcoming show (I Googled and figured out that the show is called 'Saaf'). So far, so good, for Urban Company. But the next line says that the role is that of a cleaning professional who 'cleans' crime scenes (meaning: leave no trace of the crime for the police

This is really interesting for more than one reason. Characters in films and TV shows playing specific professional roles are not new, but them playing an employee of a specific company would usually be cleared with that company/brand before the shoot. Generally, the company 1/6
