Fort Worth #BBQ joint @goldeesbbq was named the No. 1 barbecue joint in Texas — you read *all* that stuff we wrote this week, right? — and they're already sold out today. 🗣 "Please do not come!!" they say. Screenshot from Instagram:E

BBQ CONTENT INCOMING Pitmaster Kelli Nevarez gave us a tour of LaVaca BBQ in Port Lavaca, which was just named top 50 in the state by @BBQsnob - she quit her job as a first grade teacher to spend 13 hours a day making brisket. Story to come for @Vicadvocate

The full lineup of @TexasMonthly issues dedicated to barbecue starting in April 1973.
There’s a BBQ Passport in there (contest begins on 11/1, so don’t bug the BBQ joints for stamps until then), my article which highlights so many dishes that make my job really fun, and this sweet Yeti cooler with lots of great BBQ joint stickers.
Got my first look at the print copy today.
I just need you all to know that I took this photo on the most epic pie run of my life. So congrats to everyone on the #Top50 but this gal got a photo credit in @TexasMonthly and I can die happy now. #bbq #pie twitter.com/texasmonthly/s…

Wednesday means chicken by the half is our daily special at @doziersbbq . You get a half bird, potato salad, and our Alabama white sauce. @BBQsnob said our chicken is “ridiculously good”. Come try it for yourself and get some bbq from the 51st best bbq joint in Texas! #tmbbq51

@BBQsnob Ranchers: barely making a profit or losing money. Feeders: losing money or barely making a profit. Packers: record profits. Let’s put this blame squarely on the shoulders of who’s really at fault.

There are 5 spots on the Top 50 list with two locations. We chose the location with the highest score to list in print, but the other locations of Pinkerton’s, Truth, Terry Black’s, Feges, and Hutchins are also incredible BBQ joints. twitter.com/mrloerch/statu…

HUGE news in #BBQ: @BBQsnob at @TexasMonthly put out his list of top 50 joints in Texas. @goldeesbbq — a place I said was North Texas' best new restaurant in February 2021 — was given the coveted No. 1 spot. WOW. dallasnews.com/food/restauran…

#tacoeditor’s 13yo son: I wouldn’t call the @TexasMonthly barbecue top 50 the “super bowl” of smoked meat. It’s the “Michelin guide” of Texas barbecue. IYKYK.

Founded in 1921 in Dallas, the Pig Stand was America's first drive-in. With the last stand facing an uncertain future in San Antonio, the restaurant's makeshift family of regulars gathered to celebrate the restaurant's 100th birthday. texasmonthly.com/food/pig-stand…

Back down to Olton for the final stop on this road trip, and wow what a show they put on at @rejinobbq. The Chile Rejino sausage taco was their BBQ week special, plus a smoked burger, and excellent ribs and brisket.
Just north of Hereford is Vega in Oldham County, which I’ve never been to. No BBQ or aged ham, but I did find this truck stop w/ Punjabi Kitchen inside. I grabbed a pakora made w/ white bread, and a few road snacks. Had to pass on the butter chicken this time.
@BBQsnob Interesting etymology of Hereford. From Herefordshire, England. Literally meaning here we ford the river. #TheMoreYouKnow

Hereford cattle are known as whiteface cattle, but it’s still strange to see “Whiteface,” the high school’s mascot, everywhere around town. The high school team also goes by the name Hostile Herd, which is just awesome.
And now for the many herefords of Hereford, Texas.
The newest is Rusty Pit BBQ. Good ribs, jalapeño cream corn, and blueberry cheesecake pudding. Gotta wait until 11/1 for their signature green chile pork stew.
Hereford, TX is home to two BBQ joints. The older one is Pop’s Backyard BBQ, with as basic a BBQ menu as you can get. They didn’t have ribs today.
False alarm in Bovina, but the burgers sure smelled good.
My @dallasnews debut lays out cool new stuff I'll bring to the food section: commentary, analysis, investigative reporting, and, yes, telling you where to eat and where to avoid. (1/3) dallasnews.com/food/restauran…

The BBQ Shop in Farwell is almost to the New Mexico border. They open at 10 on W & Thur. Get the burnt ends, ribs, cream corn, custardy cornbread, and this fantastic carrot cake.
Not holding out much hope finding BBQ in Cochran County, TX, but I did find the best ice cream bar known to man at this Allsup’s in Morton.
The resurrected version of The Shack BBQ in Lubbock is making some excellent greens, super rich cream corn, and better brisket than they served before. The excessive amount of sugar in the rib rub creates a candy coating that’s crunchy with an unfortunate burnt flavor.
Pinkie’s BBQ (since 1962) is inside an Allsup’s, so you can get a beef & bean burrito on the side. I’d go for the Frito pie rather than the chopped beef sandwich as the main course.
Sliced brisket and house made sausage make for a great combo sandwich at Tom & Bingo’s BBQ in Lubbock.
Their special today is smoked meatloaf, which I highly suggest along with some of the green chile mac & cheese and some chicken fried corn on the cob! And check out that logo.
Free pork rinds!?!? Now that’s a fine Lubbock welcome from Chopped & Sliced BBQ who took it upon themselves to bag some up for my to-go order.
