The final overall picture is: - Conservatives lost 27 seats - Labour lost 17. - The big winners were the Lib Dems, who gained 18 seats. - Also, the Greens, who gained 10. - Smaller parties also gained 16 seats.
Final Council declares in the NW - Bury: Labour has increased its majority on Bury Council to seven after gaining a seat. The Conservatives and Lib Dems each lost three seats, while Radcliffe First increased its number of councillors to eight.
Results are all in for Bury now and Labour has increased its majority by one following an all out election. The Cons are down three and the big winners are Radcliffe First who now have eight councillors, an increase of five. Lib Dem also down three. #bury @BBCRadioManc

Five councils have remained as no overall control - Bolton, Stockport, Wirral, Burnley and West Lancashire. And the North West still has just the one Conservative council, that's Pendle.
Halton was the first council in the country to declare it's results - declaring just after 11pm last night. One of the council's seats was won by the Conservative candidate after the random drawing of a name from an envelope, after tying with the Labour candidate.
Labour has taken control of Rossendale Council, which was previously no overall control, after the Conservatives lost three seats. But Labour have lost control of Hyndburn, but remain the biggest party there.
In Oldham, the Labour leader Arooj Shah lost her seat to the Conservatives. She lost by 96 votes in her South Chadderton ward, although Labour retained the council.
It's been a big Lib Dem win in Cumbria. They've won Westmorland and Furness Council - the new council coming into full operation next April which will include Barrow, Eden and South Lakeland.
So far, the overall picture is: - Conservatives lost 23 seats - Labour lost 18 seats - Liberal Democrats gain 21 seats - Green Party gain 10 seats - and independents and others gain 10 seats
With one council - that's Bury - still to declare, here's a look at some of the headlines from today's local elections in the North West:
Liverpool City Council could pay an extra £4.5m after it admitted "errors" over its power supply. However, the total energy cost, which includes schools and the fire service, will go up from £10.6m to £26m. bbc.co.uk/news/uk-englan…
Bury Council is currently declaring its seats - it's the final council in the North West to do so. The third seat on the Radcliffe North and Ainsworth ward was decided by a draw after two Conservative candidates tied on votes. twitter.com/BuryCouncil/st…
St Helens Council has now just declared its result. Labour holds the council but has lost seven seats - four to independent candidates and three to the Greens.
Rochdale Council's result is in - it remains Labour-led but Labour have lost six seats, with five won by independents and one gained by the Conservatives.

West Lancashire Council has just declared - it remains no overall control and no seats have changed hands. As a result, Labour remain the largest party with 25 seats, the Conservatives have 20 seats and there are nine seats held by independent candidates.

The new Westmorland and Furness Council will be a Liberal Democrat council, when it comes into being in April. The Lib Dems have won 36 seats on the new council, with Labour winning 15 seats, the Cons gaining 11 seats, 2 seats for independent candidates and 1 for the Greens.
Hyndburn Council remains as no overall control although the Conservatives have taken two seats from Labour. Labour remain the largest party with 17 seats while the Conservatives have 14 seats.
Some more results in Greater Manchester: Manchester City Council is a Labour hold - they did lose one seat to the Greens. Trafford Council is also a Labour hold. The Conservatives lost four seats with the Lib Dems gaining two seats and one each for Labour and the Greens.
The Conservatives now have 17 seats on the council - Labour have 11 and the Lib Dems have 5 seats, so the Tories came very close to losing control.

Pendle Council has now declared its result. It is a Conservative hold - but the Conservatives have lost two seats to the Lib Dems.

Knowsley Council had now declared its result. It remains Labour-run but the party has lost two seats, one to the Greens and one to an Independent.

In Lancashire, Labour gained three from the Conservatives and now hold 32 of the 42 seats on Chorley Council. There was no change in numbers on Preston City Council and former council leader Valerie Wise returns to the council after 22 years.

In Wirral, the Greens gained two seats - giving them nine councillors - while the Conservatives gained one. Labour remains the biggest party.
