The beauty of poetry is that statements can be made that you might not even fully understand…like puzzles that are open to interpretation.
‘living scares me to death’… makes an observation that the human condition is challenging, terrifying and threatening.
Post Covid ’20 – ’22, as well as all the trauma from warfare and displacement, I’m sure there’s a massive need for this to happen.
It needs to be brought into the open so we can come more easily to terms with it.
I still haven’t figured out whether this statement is disingenuous or not.
Who am I to make grandiose statements about the subject of ‘death’ being easy, when it’s clearly the ONE issue that terrifies most of us all.
Even tiny insects do everything to avoid their own mortality.
The ‘other’ persona offers the facility to step out of ‘convention’ - which is why I suspect everyone wore masks of disguise during those memorable Venetian balls back in the day.
You have permission to behave differently.

It was so nuts that we both started getting desperate fits of giggles, which we clearly had to stifle out of respect for the peeps who had turned up..

Either me or Sophie came up with the notion of having AL ‘look alikes’ to perform, as I was expecting a baby ( Hi Tali!💕) and might not have the stamina..
We held a truly surreal audition in a little old London theatre one afternoon.0
So - ‘Little Bird’ like all the other videos on Diva, was directed by Sophie Muller, who went on to have a phenomenally brilliant career, directing just about everyone in the popular music zeitgeist from Gwen Stefanie..Shakespeare’s Sister.. Beyoncé..Garbage..Blur..Radiohead..

Saffron Aldrich needed no make up to enhance her naturally stunning features and ‘yours truly’ stamped and swung about like the ‘crazed’ person I wanted to manifest...
(The best bit was improvised crawling across the floor..just to take it that level further. )
The walls were hung with ancient decorative paper that had evidently survived two world wars. The atmosphere was filled with stylish melancholy. Over the course of two days it was dressed and lit, as were the fabulous ensemble of featured characters.
There is a private members club in central London called Home House.. It’s quite swish & fancy now, but a few decades ago it was in a sadly dilapidated state.. Perfect for use as a video set!
It had and still has large rooms with high ceilings and wonderfully curved staircases.
