Thank you @SenatorDurbin for inviting me to testify in front of @JudiciaryDems and to lift up the words of my colleagues in our shared goal to #EndGunViolence in children's lives. I am also grateful to @SenOssoff for using his time to read pediatrician stories.
The number of pediatricians who took the time to tell their stories is a testament to how profoundly gun violence impacts children & how extensively it has transformed our profession. I hope all Senators are moved to enact meaningful policy change after reading their stories. twitter.com/AmerAcadPeds/s…
At 11:55 am ET, @AAPPres Dr. Moira Szilagyi will share our top funding priorities for Congress, including gun violence prevention research. Tune in live: youtube.com/watch?v=TcA1FA… twitter.com/AppropsDems/st…

The toll of the pandemic has not been felt equally across racial or economic lines, and we must acknowledge these inequities as we help families navigate the right choices to keep themselves and their children safe and healthy. Read AAP's full statement: aap.org/en/news-room/n…
We encourage each family to make a plan that works best for them, while also modeling empathy and discouraging bullying of any child who chooses to mask to protect themselves and their family even when not required to do so. ¾
For some children — including those too young to be immunized and many with special health care needs — masking will still be an important layer of protection for a while longer. 2/4
While @CDCgov's new approach to masks is reasonable, pediatricians urge state and local policymakers to keep in mind the unique needs of children when considering COVID-19 mitigation measures. ¼
To help parents find accurate, trustworthy content about their children’s immunizations, the American Academy of Pediatrics is launching a new video series that answers some of the most common questions parents have about vaccines. Take a look: youtube.com/watch?v=HQJkkr…

A careful, robust and transparent process to evaluate the evidence for the vaccine in this age group is essential in order for parents to have confidence in offering the vaccine to their children, and AAP is committed to a thorough review of the data. 3/3

Pediatricians are also confronting unprecedented levels of misinformation and disinformation about COVID-19 that proliferates on social media platforms, and we will continue to do all we can to stop its spread. Read AAP’s statement - aap.org/en/news-room/n…
Pediatricians have long been raising concerns about the impact of social media use on children’s mental health and development, and we appreciated being able to have a conversation about the opportunities and challenges presented to us by these technologies.
I joined @FrancesHaugen, @AACAP and other AAP leaders in a roundtable discussion today on the role of social media in children and teens’ mental health. The discussion comes after AAP and other groups recently declared a national emergency in children’s mental health.
It is important that all children can benefit from the protection that the COVID vaccine offers. AAP encourages parents to bring any questions they have about the vaccine to their child’s pediatrician. Pediatricians are eager to have these conversations. aap.org/en/news-room/n…
