The mesa-top settlement is known worldwide for its unique art & rich culture. Construction began on the massive San Esteban del Rey Mission in 1629. Both the Mission and the Pueblo are Registered National Historical Landmarks and are on the National Register of Historic Places.

Fort Stanton was a TB hospital for a long time, primarily for Merchant Marines. Large cemetery. Many have coins around the base to indicate who stopped to pay their respects. Is this a widespread tradition? Haven't noticed this in other military cemeteries.
