When experiencing emotions, remember that they are a part of us, but they are not us. When we put on a jacket we do not suddenly become jackets. Similarly, feeling angry does not make one an angry person. We are more than a collection of emotions when we learn to process them.
As children we looked towards our parents to soothe us when upset. As we age, we can no longer always rely on someone else to aid us with it and must learn to self-soothe. Perhaps a warm bath, a nice meal, or a walk through nature is just what we need in times of high stress.
Resource gathering is identifying what around or inside you brings you back to a happy place. These can be memories, a person, pets, practicing meditation/spirituality, and even nature. The goal is to be mindful of the good and unmindful of the worries.
It’s your right and responsibility to create the life you want. Because, if you stand by and wait, you’ll be waiting a long time. Nobody can do it for you! What big or small change do you commit to making today to come closer to your goals?
