The people of the Pahv river valley had not known war for as long as anybody could remember. Stories told of other people living in faraway lands, but most considered these stories legend or myth. #WIP #amwriting #brainstorming #fantasy #WritingCommunity

Don't you hate it when you have a perfect response to a tweet, a most lovely comeback, or the epitome of sarcasm ... ... but when you click the send button, the original doesn't exist anymore?

Bryeth closed his eyes, controlling his breathing to maintain his composure. Brud had already been counseled a few times about his speech, but Bryeth would have to speak with him again. "No reason to jump to conclusions. We don't even know there are others with him." #WIP
Bryeth took a deep breath before asking, "What do you think is going to happen?" "Perhaps the others are going to attack us," Brud answered. "They might want our food or our women." Rieya winced at Brud's use of the phrase "our women," but she knew now wasn't the time. #WIP
If an ancient people had never had contact with any other people, how would they respond to someone new walking into their village? Would their peaceful nature among themselves transfer to the stranger? See my pinned tweet for background info and a snippet of a story.

"I don't trust him," said Brud. "It could be a signal. There could be others." Though Pahvoo and the nearby villages lived in relative peace, Brud was a member of an unofficial group who were not always happy with the state of affairs. #WritingCommunity #amwriting #fantasy
A few moments later the stranger raised one hand, spreading out his fingers. He held it there for a few seconds and then extended the hand as far as he could reach. "What's that about?" Rieya asked. "Looks like a greeting," Bryeth replied. #WritingCommunity #amwriting #fantasy
Several people indicated he [the stranger] had not moved. "He just keeps looking at us," said Glada, Rieya's older sister. #WritingCommunity #amwriting #fantasy
By the time Bryeth and Rieya returned, a small crowd had gathered, halfway encircling the stranger. The stranger stood there not moving, except to gaze at different portions of the crowd. "Has he done anything else?" Bryeth asked. #WritingCommunity #amwriting #fantasy
Stating it another way... If it isn't about what is being said so much as the person themselves, then what people find offensive is that person's very existence. Thus people walking by will find them sitting on their porch offensive because they exist.
It's strange for people to get offended at things said that the subjects of said offenses don't find offensive. Sometimes I think it isn't about what was said but who was saying itβ€”people object to their worldviewβ€”meaning one day it might be offensive for me to sit on my porch.
@Tam5 @MasqCrew @thecodybannon @PauletHampton42 Dialogue tags ought to clear things up. I feel like I notice "said" when it's included when it doesn't need to be. Or when the dialogue feels boring or repetitious. If I'm noticing "said", then more is broken about the scene than the dialogue tags. ^_^

Care-giver, watcher, watchperson, keeper... I wouldn't use any of these terms to describe a person who is watching over children unless I was trying to be facetious or pedantic. I'm a father and I am perfectly capable of being a babysitter of my own children, just like my wife.
Although in practice, I don't usually use the term babysitter. "Will you watch the kids tonight?" This question can be posed to anyone, mother & father included. When you are actively watching kids, you are a babysitter ... unless there's another generic word I am forgetting.
#UnpopularOpinion: a parent of any gender can describe themselves as a babysitter, and I won't be offended. "My wife's babysitting tonight." "Sorry, mates, I'm the babysitter tonight." "We're looking for a babysitter for Friday night." None of these offend me.

There is not a single, solitary person on planet Earth that I agree with 100% of the time. Some people choose their friends this way, ensuring they will eventually be friendless. I choose to get along with and possibly be friends with as many people as possible. twitter.com/Dewiwrites/sta…
Before you judge a writer, consider asking if their goal is the same as yours. Not everyone write to be published. Some write to escape. Some write for fun. Unless they’re the first, they don’t have to live up to any standard and that should never be bashed. #WritingCommunity
