I do recognize more and more this trend of calling a book of nonfiction a novel though; even at Books by Hippocampus, we get queries for "nonfiction novels." But I also see people say, "fiction novel" which does illustrate that to many, "novel" equals "long book." Hmm.
Such as fascinating discussion (in the thread @alexanderchee is referring to, a professor wants to stop correcting students who call anything book-length a novel, incl. nonfiction, bc he sees it is an evolving term.) I'm with Chee and the others who disagree. twitter.com/alexanderchee/…
