In other words, part of what Liles is being punished for this year is Leafs insistence on playing him with non-NHL partners last season.
About 26% of Liles ice time last year was with O'Byrne or Holzer and their Corsi was 33%. Liles with any other partner: 49.4%.
Liles on what he heard about Redden: "We just talked about how well he handled it. It kind of sticks in your mind."
Liles is close friends with Wade Redden's former D partner in Hartford. He kept in mind the great things he heard about Redden in the AHL.
Carlyle: "We need goals. If you look at our statistics, we’ve got to start getting offence from different areas of our lineup."
Mmmmmmark. RT @Hope_Smoke
: McKenzie: "Carlyle really likes Fraser and he is comfort food for Randy"
Liles raved about Leafs prospect goalie Chris Gibson today. Thinks he could be really good at some point.
Liles: "It's a business. I understand that as well as anybody. And that's just how it goes sometimes."
"Never mind analytics, never mind statistical probabilities, when you’re watching it, that can’t work." @rayferrarotsn
today on the Leafs.
Carlyle on Liles: "He has the ability to move the puck and we’ve had our fair share of concerns in doing that."
Rangers acquire Kyle Beach from Chicago in exchange for Brandon Mashinter.
Good stuff on Leafs from @rayferrarotsn
just now. Catch the podcast of show later if you can.
Leafs currently have no extra forwards and two extra D. Lupul's return still up in the air.
Liles has a beard now. #lilesupdates
One thing I liked about what Carlyle did last night is he used Kadri on a ton of o-zone faceoffs. Should be the norm for that line.
The Maple Leafs, puck possession, shooting percentages, yadda yadda yadda. sbn.to/IVx7Bj

Bernier on facing 50 shots for the first time in his career: "I guess that's our style right now." My story: bit.ly/IMpyfn #leafs
With the recall of Liles, I'm guessing last night was the last appearance of Fraser-Ranger. #leafs
Jake Gardiner led the Leafs in ice-time again tonight, totaling nearly 26 minutes.
Tonight's story: Leafs desperately needed a win and Bernier, Kadri and Smith provided bit.ly/IMpyfn
In case you missed my story on Kadri's grandfather yesterday, here it is theglobeandmail.com/sports/hockey/…
Remarkable he played that well tonight.
Trevor Smith: "If it wasn’t for Bernie tonight, the score could have been a lot different. He kept us in it and gave us a chance."
Carlyle also said Kadri hasn't been himself lately due to his grandfather: "Hopefully we can be solace to him in his time of mourning."
Carlyle wasn't too happy: "There’s been a lot of things going on and we just think that it’s time for this group to take a deep breath."
Leafs had 13 offensive zone faceoffs and 33 defensive zone ones tonight. Phaneuf had a 13% zone start. McClement had 5%.
Carlyle: "I’m happy we won because there seems to be a lot of pressure on our group and hopefully this helps."
Here the shot chart on the Leafs-Stars game. As you can see, Toronto just sitting back way too much with lead extraskater.com/game/2013-12-0…
Corsi in tonight's game (all situations) was 95-45 for the Stars. Leafs were at about 30% Fenwick Close.
Carlyle pointed out tonight that the Leafs are midpack in the NHL in man games lost and don't have reason to complain about injuries.
Bernier on facing 50 shots: "I guess that's our style right now."
Leafs outshot 48-22 so far. Hanging on for dear life in OT.
JVR has already played about 24 minutes. Hope he ate his Wheaties for OT>
And Dallas scores with 2:46 left to tie the game. Bernier has been so solid but that was a pretty nice redirect and unstoppable.
Stars power play firing at about 10% this year. They might want to start declining these.
Leafs again just in their zone way too much. McClement takes a penalty to give Stars glorious chance to tie here.
Horcoff puts one in with a high stick. Doesn't look like it'll count.
Kadri with a nice re-direct in front and it's 2-1 Leafs.
Leafs really shouldn't ever use a Fraser and Ranger pairing to be honest.
Leafs caught on a bad change and Stars tie it up.
Ray Whitney whiffs on one there or it would have been 1-1. Bernier has been sharp though tonight.
Was just gonna say Kevin Connauton looks OK for the Stars, and then Jay McClement walked right around him.
JVR is becoming one of the better players in the league at the side of the net. So good in tight this season.
Daley has basically been playing top pairing minutes with Robidas out.
